Frequently Asked Questions
Plain answers to the questions patients ask most often about interventional radiology.
What is interventional radiology?
A medical speciality that uses imaging such as ultrasound, X-ray and CT to guide minimally invasive procedures that diagnose and treat disease in many parts of the body.
How is it different from surgery?
Most procedures are done through a pinhole, usually under local anaesthesia, without a large incision. This generally means less pain and a shorter recovery.
Which conditions can be treated?
Is it safe?
Every procedure has some risk. Because the access is very small, complications such as infection and bleeding are generally less common than with open surgery. Your specific risks are discussed before any procedure.
Will I need to stay in hospital?
Many procedures are day-care and you go home the same day. Some need a short stay.
How do I book an appointment?
Send a WhatsApp message or call the number on this site. Sharing your reports in advance helps.
What should I bring?
Your earlier prescriptions, scan reports and films, blood test results and a list of your current medicines.
