Biliary Drainage (PTBD) for Obstructive Jaundice

When a bile duct is blocked by a stone, a narrowing or a tumour, bile builds up and causes jaundice, itching and infection. PTBD (percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage) relieves the blockage.

Treated by Dr. Jyotish Roy, vascular and interventional radiologist in Kolkata.

How it works

Under ultrasound and X-ray guidance, a thin tube is passed through the skin into the bile duct to drain the bile. In some patients a stent is placed to keep the duct open.
