Radiofrequency and microwave ablation
A needle placed in the tumour under imaging destroys it with heat. It is used for selected tumours of the liver, kidney, lung and bone.
Chemoembolization (TACE)
Chemotherapy and blocking particles are delivered directly into the artery feeding a liver tumour.
Pre-operative embolization
The blood supply to a tumour is blocked before surgery to reduce bleeding.

Most procedures need a short hospital stay. Follow-up scans check the response.
